Khy Tep, age 89, passed away in his sleep at home on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
Khy was born in 1932 in the province of Kampong Cham in Cambodia to Da Tep and Bou Chaim. He started working at the age of 13 to help support his family. In 1964, he married Kry Ea. Together, with three children, they survived the Cambodian genocide that spanned from 1975-1979. After its end, their family was placed at the Khao-I-Dang Refugee Camp in Thailand, where Khy and Kry had two more children. In December of 1984, Khy and his family were relocated to the United States and lived in Lowell, Massachusetts. In 1991 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where Khy worked as an assembly worker at Land & Sky Manufacturing until he retired in 2000. He spent his retirement working on various home projects, spending time with family, and taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood. He also traveled to Cambodia with his wife and family as much as possible.
Khy is survived by his wife, Kry Ea; daughter Sokhun Tep (Chenn Chhath); daughter Sokha Tep; son Sokheoun (Sophy) Tep; daughter Nary (Rob) Simms; daughter Narin (Nic) Ehrisman; grandsons Sakphap, Chenny, Vantha (Erica), Nicky, Joseph, Billy, Bobby, Shaqheoun, Sean, Ronan; granddaughters Judy, Monica, Nalana, Nora, Naya; great-grandsons Jayven, Jetta, Kairo, Wren, Ryland; great-granddaughters Adriane, Samara; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 older siblings, and 2 younger siblings.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. January 14, 2022, at Metcalf Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska.
