Sherly Kay Gulley, 65, Attalla AL, formerly of Lincoln, NE, passed away on  October 19, 2021 in Gadsden, AL. She was born August 1, 1956 in Pine Bluff, AR to Rhudolph and Mary (Daniels) Overstreet.  She was the 4th child of 10 siblings. She grew up in Pine Bluff, AR and attended grade school at Oak Park Elementary where she was the first black student to segregate into the public school system.  In 1965 the family relocated to Lincoln, NE where Sherly gave her life to Christ at an early age at St. Johns Baptist Church where she accepted Him as her personal savior. She attended Elliott elementary, Whittier Junior High, and Lincoln High School.  During her youth, Sherly had a fondness for math, enjoyed singing, playing basketball and volleyball.  She furthered her education at Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, NE studying Accounting.  Sherly worked multiple jobs, including managing Convenience Stores, Burlington Railroad, Gooch Milling, and    being a teacher's aide at Clinton Elementary school.  Sherly became a  member at New Bethel Bible Way Apostolic Temple Church, Inc. under the leadership of the late honorable Bishop James H Thompson.  She gave her life to Christ on December 28, 1988 and was baptized by Pastor Cleveland Furby.  She had a strong love for the Lord and served in the church choir and as an usher.  She had a passion for Gospel Music and would fill the room with a hymn.  Sherly constantly prayed for her loved ones and cherished the moments she spent with her family and friends. She always encouraged and lent her wisdom to others.  Sherly had a great sense of humor, a passion for fashion, enjoyed shopping, cooking, and loved animals. You could find her putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing Solitaire, or working crossword puzzles in her leisure time.  She was preceded in death by grandparents; parents; one brother; Rhudolph Overstreet Jr.; three sisters, Ruthie Nelson, Dorothy Walker, and  Erma (Jean) Thomas. On Tuesday evening, October 19, 2021, in Gadsden, Alabama, Sherly said farewell to her earthly home and hello to her eternal home.  Sherly leaves to cherish her memories: lifelong friend and companion, Anthony Hines, son, Mario Overstreet of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughters, DanRyl Overstreet of Abingdon, Maryland, and DenRia Bradford of Denver, Colorado; sisters Earlene, Patricia (Rick), Joyce, Phillis (Troy), and Pauline; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly. 

Sherly was abundantly loved and will be deeply missed.  


She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Anthony Hines, son, Mario Overstreet, of Lincoln, NE; daughters, DanRyl Overstreet of Abingdon, Maryland, and DenRia Bradford of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Earlene, Patricia (Rick), Joyce, Phillis (Troy), and Pauline.


Grandchildren: Talaneshia Adam, Willie Smith Jr., Mario Rush, Mar-Lakuittia Overstreet, Tayce Hefner, MarKio Overstreet, Mary Overstreet, Ari’Yon Gulley, Maileek Bradford, Khe’Yana Overstreet, LeiLonie Bradford, Ameirr’ Weyrough, Kimora Gasaway, Bennie Holland, Maryiah Holland.


Great-grandchildren: Za’Khyriah Williams, Zyrion Walker, Kahmylia, Ke’dric, and Zenah Adam, Jamarion and Jazzmin Smith, Serenity, Harmony, Destiny, and Neveah Overstreet, Damian Gulley, Ja’Nali Beckworth, Iionna Bradford, Mésen and Kàizer Washington; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  


Preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, one brother, Rudolph Overstreet, and three sisters, Ruthie Nelson, Dorothy Walker, and Erma (Jean) Thomas.


Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 6, 2021 at New Bethel Bibleway Apostolic Temple Church, Inc. 1990 West A Street, Lincoln, NE 68522  


Visitation will be 2:00 pm-5:00 pm Friday, November 5, 2021 at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N 27th Street, Lincoln, NE 68503  


Burial following the service at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, NE
