Waunita E. Boquist, 74, Ceresco, NE died June 8, 2021 in Lincoln, NE. She was born January 18, 1947 in Lincoln, NE to Wilbur and Pauline (Hughes) Boquist. Waunita attended District 45 School, east of Ceresco, then Ceresco High School and graduated in 1965 from Wahoo High School where she was an alternate Regent Scholar. She spent the greater part of her life in the Ceresco area. She lived in California for a brief time while her mother taught school there. Waunita loved to write. She wrote many stories over the years. Unfortunately, nothing was ever published except for a joke that she submitted to Reader’s Digest. Her grandfather Hughes delighted in reading her stories, was well as her mother. Her sister and brother would sometimes act out Waunita’s stories under her direction. Some of her stories were read at opening exercises at District 45 School. The stories that she wrote were for her own purposes. She was usually out of step with what was currently being published. Her later stories were generally about outer space. She was a big fan of Star Trek. Her grandfather Hughes sometimes commented that her stories could raise the hair on his neck. Waunita was not only a writer, but also an avid reader all of her life. Her books and stories were her greatest treasures as well as her cat, Liebchen. She is survived by her sister, Jackie Boquist, Wahoo, NE and numerous cousins and Ceresco friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Willie, several aunts and uncles and her beloved dog, Smokey Joe.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00AM, Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Ceresco United Methodist Church. No visitation, cremation. Memorials may be given to Lost Pets Rescue, Wahoo, NE, or Ceresco Public Library or to the family.
