Jerry Gene Niday, 85, of Lincoln, formerly of Ceresco, passed away August 1, 2020. He was born March 9, 1935 in Cass County, NE to James Glen Niday and Dorothea (Seyfer) Niday. Jerry graduated in 1952 from Nebraska City High School.  Jerry married his bride, Darlene (Cook) Niday on June 18, 1955.  He started his career at Lincoln Steel and later helped establish River’s Metal Products.  Jerry and his wife, Darlene had four children, Diane (Marvin) Potter, Sharon (Kevin) O’Brien, Brian (Kimberly) Niday, and Valerie (Joe) Young.  He lived in the Ceresco area for over 50 years and was a committed member of the community.  Jerry built the bell tower at the Ceresco Covenant Church and the desk at the library as well as many improvements to the Ceresco United Methodist Church.  Jerry was a Worshipful Master of the Masonic Comet Lodge, #229 in 1985 and again in 2000.  As an active member of the Platte Valley Shrine, he participated in many parades where he made and rode a tandem bike. Jerry was a member of the Ceresco United Methodist Church where he served on the board and in the choir.  He was a member of the Order of Eastern Starr, #198.  Jerry loved traveling, golf and wood working and attending children’s and grandchildren’s activities.  He was an avid Husker fan who worked with UNL event staff and had taken tickets for 18 years at home football games.  He also taught hunting safety courses for Saunders County youth for 20 years.  Jerry is survived by his wife, Darlene of 65 years, his four children, 9 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, brother, Michael(Jane) Niday and sister ,Beth Zarin, both of Lincoln,  and sister Martha Ann Komma, of Des Moines, IA. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Richard and Lanny.

Visitation 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln, NE.

Funeral Service 10:30 Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Ceresco United Methodist Church, 421 N. 2nd Street, Ceresco, NE.

Burial 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2020 at East Union Cemetery, Union, NE

Memorials may be given to Comet Lodge # 229 or Ceresco United Methodist Church.
