Fern E. Peet, 96, of Malcolm, formerly of Lincoln, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Southlake Village Rehabilitation & Care Center. Born October 16, 1923 in Havelock, NE to Robert V and Bessie (Bell) Grant. Fern worked at Goodyear, Control Data Business Forms and Boomers Printing and retired at the age of 70.
After a stroke in 2010 she went to stay at Village Manor Skilled Nursing Home which was replaced by Southlake Village Rehabilitation Center. At Southlake she enjoyed the modern and very fancy atmosphere. Once experiencing the friendliness and skills of the staff she certainly wanted to stay. Many staff members referring to her as Fernie or Mama Fern. She was never without someone there to help her or for her to tease. She had an infectious smile that made others smile as well. She would spend most of her days in the welcoming living area of the Woods Park section of the facility doing word-search puzzles or putting together jigsaw puzzles. Her final months of treatment was a coordinated team effort of St. Croix Hospice and Southlake Village. Both who did an outstanding job.
Fern was eligible to donate skin grafts to the Live On Nebraska organization. Skin grafts are commonly used to treat individuals who are experiencing extensive skin loss due to burns, skin cancers or infections. Just another part of Fern being our Hero.

In lieu of monetary donations to an organization, we suggest letting healthcare workers know that they are greatly appreciated. Sometimes we just take it for granted.
