Ira Lee Walker was called home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2019 at the age of 86. She was born August 5, 1933 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Cornileus and Georgia Ann (Murphy) Walker. She was the fourth of five children.

She was educated in the Clarksdale Public School system beginning in a one room county school which consisted of grades 1 through 6. She graduated from W.A. Higgins High School in 1954.

She met and later married Herman Walker in 1954. Herman served as an Airman in the United Stated Air Force; he received orders to Army Air Guard in Air Park, and they moved to Lincoln, NE. in 1954 where they settled and raised their four children.

Ira was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She dedicated her life to raising her children and caring for her family. Ira professed hope in Jesus Christ and was baptized on July 3, 1966 at First Born Temple Church of God in Christ by Evangelist E. W. Way.

Ira dedicated her life to Christ, continuing to grow in her faith she joined Angelic Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Donald Davis. Ira was a faithful member of Angelic Temple for over 45 years, a prayer warrior, a member of Mom on the Move (MOM), a church mother, and volunteer in ministry wherever there was a need while her health allowed.

She was employed at Van Sickle Plastic and retired from Tabitha Health Care Services in 2003. She found great joy in working with children, she volunteered at the Good Neighbor Center in 2005, as a “Grandma” through the Community Action Partnership in 2011, and the Head Start Center in 2012.

Ira is survived by her children: sons, Eric (Rhonda) Walker, of Lincoln, NE, Clarence “Clay” (Mary) Walker, of Prairie Village, KS, daughters, Erika Walker and Denise Walker, both of Lincoln, NE, three grandchildren, Darrell Smith, of Papillion, NE, Cole Walker and Avery Walker, both of Prairie Village, KS, one great grandson, Drayson Smith, of Papillion, NE, a special cousin, Floyd Brown, of Lincoln, NE, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and her Angelic Temple Church family.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Charles Walker, Cornelius Walker Jr, Eugene Walker, Rivers Walker, and granddaughter, Alexa Bonner.

Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2019 at Angelic Temple Church of God in Christ, 300 N. 33rd St. Lincoln, NE

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N. 27th St. Lincoln, NE

Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
