Joyce Ann Evans

Joyce Ann Evans was born on May 11th, 1963 to Holbert and Joyce Bradley in Tucson, Arizona. They moved the family to Lincoln, Nebraska when Joy was a young child. The family joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lincoln under the leadership of Rev. Collins and that is where Joy accepted Christ in her life. She was educated in Lincoln Public Schools and attended Clinton Elementary, Woodyer and Lefler Middle Schools, and Lincoln High School. At Lincoln High, Joy lettered in Track 3 years in a row and was a member of the Prep Squad. After graduation, she began working for Lincoln Public Schools as a Bus Driver. Joy became a mother to a beautiful, bouncing baby boy, Jonathan Juwan Andre on December 5, 1987. One day Joy met a “cute truck driver” named Sammy, who pursued her for quiet some time until she finally agreed to go on a date with him. That date eventually lead to the two soulmates to marry until he was called home in 1997. Joy continued her driving career moving from school buses to city buses. She worked for StarTran for over 30 years until she retired in 2016. Joy took the most pride in not just being a phenomenal mother but an amazing NANA to her four beautiful granddaughters. She absolutely loved being the matriarch to the Bradley-Jenkins clan. Joy started her days with a cup of coffee and sitting on her porch loving her view of her yard before doing her drop-off duties with the grandchildren.  As the family sat at her bedside, the Lord sent his angels to bring her home at 8:10am on Saturday, August 23, 2019 at the age of 56 years old. Joy is preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Evans, her parents Holbert and Joyce Bradley, grandparents, and her god sister, Julie Brown.  She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Jonathan Bradley, five amazing granddaughters: Kaylana, Kenliegh, Kiatala, Aiare, and baby Kiara Bradley (just know that if she could have stayed for you, she would have stayed). Her sisters, Minnie Jenkins and Patricia Jenkins (Lincoln, NE), brothers, Mike Jenkins (Lincoln, NE), Stevie Jenkins (Omaha, NE), Holbert Jr. (Vivian) Bradley (Houston, TX), and Rodney (Donna) Bradley (Atlanta, GA). She also leaves behind aunts, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and lifelong friends (Lori Banks, Beth Solomon, Cheryl Martin, Lynette Swanson, and Dee). We wanted to recognize the entire Brown family and some specific nieces/nephews; Deniecey, Kasha, Kevan, and Charles who took care of Joy during the times that Jonathan or Rodney was not able to come up to Nebraska.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2019 at Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln, NE

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with the family greeting from  5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel.
