Wanda Ilene (Smith) Nilson, on Monday March 18th, 2019 went home to be with Jesus at the age of 88 years. Wanda was born on October 13, 1930 in Ashland NE. She was raised on the family farm outside Ashland until her senior year in High School (1947). Her family then moved to Ceresco NE. It was there that she met and married her husband of 48 years, Julius Nilson. They were married on March 18th, 1951. Together they owned and operated the Coffee Cup Café in Ceresco for a few years. After the close of the café, Wanda held various employments which included the Fairview Restaurant in Wahoo NE, selling Avon, and retail sales at Montgomery Wards in Lincoln NE. Julius and Wanda were blessed with 5 children. Wanda enjoyed volunteering with the Boy Scouts, the Lutheran Church Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star. After they retired, Julius and Wanda operated J & W Ceramics in Ceresco, NE. In her later years she moved to Lincoln and lived in the Walter Apartments.
Wanda is survived by her daughter Colleen Nilson, Overland Park, KS; son Clark (Sharon) Nilson, Lincoln, NE; son Calvin (Janet) Nilson, Lincoln, NE; and daughter Candace (Mark) Masek from Louisville, NE. She is also survived by grandchildren Zachery (Sarah) Keady, Gardner, KS; Peter (Megan) Avner, Overland Park, KS; Cody (Christina) Nilson, Columbus, NE; Craig Nilson, Bellevue, NE; Jessica Nilson, Lincoln, NE; Christy Nilson, Lincoln, NE; Melissa (Mark Witherell), Golden, CO; Roseann (Jeremy Block) Masek-Block, St. Louis, MO; Regina (Keith) Neemann, Louisville, NE. along with 11 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great-grandchild.
Wanda is preceded in death by her beloved husband Julius, daughter Julie Ann, parents Walter and Anne (Fleek) Smith, and her siblings, Keith (Arlys), Wesley (Doris), and Beverly (Dennis) Tejrl, and a grandson, Benjamin Masek.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln, Ne.
Services will be held 1:00 Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, Ceresco , Ne.
Memorials may be given to the family for future designation
